I'm looking forward to weighing my Walla Walla sweet onions as soon as the tops are dry enough to cut! This has been a good year for the onions, as I have already exceeded last years total harvest weight. I still have a few more of the Walla Wallas in the ground, although they are small ones, as well as the red onions that have yet to be pulled.
Join in the harvest fun at Daphne's Dandelions!

The family gathered here for an afternoon and evening of food, cards and fireworks. I served a taco/chili bar, with a crockpots filled with taco meat and chili, soft and crisp tortillas, tortilla chips, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes (store bought, unfortunately), salsa (the last two jars from my 2009 garden), a fruit bowl of melons and grapes, bananas, lemon bars, caramel carrot cake, and assorted beverages, from beer to margaritas to iced tea and pop.
While part of the family walked down to the river to watch the fireworks, the rest of us opted to sit in the front yard, wrapped in blankets. This is the first year we've had to wrap up to stay warm through the show. At most, we might need sweaters or sweatshirts, but this year continues to be an unusual one, as far as the weather is concerned.
